Position: Researcher/Program Developer
Duration: 12 Weeks @ 35 hrs/week
Rate of Pay: $15/hour
Location: BEA Central Office – Halifax

Looking for a post-secondary student with experience in workshop development and instructional material.  Preference will be given to students in Education and Social Sciences.

Specific Duties/Responsibilities

-          Responsible for program development and delivery under the supervision of the Executive Director
-          Research and update scholarship and bursary information
-          Research and develop separate workshops on the following topics:

• Study Skills
• How to Write a Paper
• Understanding the Research Process
• Career Planning for Junior and Senior High Students 

-          Develop a Cultural Academic Enrichment Program (CAEP) Manual
-          Event planning for Career Jam 2012 – a career-based conference, and identifying potential mentors for the initiative
-          Ensure completion of all reporting requirements

The Provincial Spelling BEE is a community-based activity outside regular school curriculum. Its purpose is to focus on English language basics; foster learning of African Nova Scotian students studying the English language; and introduce and encourage students to compete in regional, national and international finals.

Eligibility Requirements:

1. Spellers must qualify under the following requirements:

• they must be enrolled in a CAEP
• they must be a legal resident of Nova Scotia of African-descent or a foreign student of African-descent studying in Nova Scotia with a valid study permit who is enrolled in a Nova Scotian School (including any Nova Scotia Public, Private, Parochial or Home Schooling Association),
• they must be between 8 and 15 years of age,
• they must not have reached their 16th birthday on or before the date of the Provincial BEE, May 26th, 2012;
• they may not eschew normal school activity in favor of preparation for the Spelling BEE; and
• they must not be a child/sibling of the Regional Educators or Spelling BEE officials: the Program Coordinator, the Judges, Recorder and the Pronouncer.
